Newcastle comfortably saw off Aston Villa to go top of the Championship on Monday night, cruising to a straightforward 2-0 victory at St James’ Park.

Villa were a massive 30 points behind their opponents going into the fixture, with an own goal from new signing Henri Lansbury helping to make sure his side’s dismal winless run was duly extended to nine games by the end of the night.

Rather unsportingly, Newcastle’s official Twitter account chose to troll Lansbury after the match by posting a photo of the Villa midfielder looking exasperated after just accidentally back-heeling one in off his own goalline.

Ouch. No need to rub it in chaps.

As mentioned, the win spirited the Toon back to the summit of the Championship while Villa were left to dangle just six points above the relegation zone.
