Remember the big argument regarding the pay gap between Men’s and Women’s World Cup soccer teams? I was recently watching a video on YouTube that got my blood boiling on the subject. Please watch it below:
Her basic argument is based on the economic differences between the events. Since the Men’s event draws bigger crowds and viewing audience it justifies paying the men more. I’m going to keep this short and sweet. I think this the equivalent of paying the World Series Champions more money if it’s the New York Yankees versus the Los Angeles Dodgers both teams from huge markets, than a World Series with two teams from smaller markets like the Minnesota Twins and the Milwaukee Brewers.
I understand the men’s team brings in more revenue and more profit than the women. That being said, FIFA is making more than enough profit on both events to treat the players equally. US Soccer clearly agrees as they have since made some adjustments in pay and other accommodations for the Women’s team. A link to that article is below.
